So TiVo has decided to raise prices by ending the annual plans ($74.61 including fees) and forcing you to go monthly ($14.99 plus fees). To avoid mass cancellations, they are up to their old trick of invalidating your password and crippling the reset password link. If you go to support chat, it keeps looping back to the reset password link until the right wording gets you here, saying there is no one to talk to you, even though the website says they should be available now. So you call in, and the AI that answers the phone sends you to the same reset password link. Keep at it long enough, and you get a hard-to-understand person who tries the same BS on you. Since I was calling to cancel the renewal, I finally just told them to cancel my account. They responded with $6.99/mth. At this point, I was already done wasting close to an hour on this, and given the iffy reception here, I told them no. At this point, they pointed out my account would be closed, deactivating all my old TiVos as well. No biggie for me since I left all but one behind when I moved, as none of them worked anymore for recording. So, I said fine, and they immediately closed my account of about 25 YEARS.
Kind of crazy how they have doubled down in the face of competitors like TabloTV. That is who I’ll be using if I decide to put up an antenna tower. Seems unlikely, though, as the FCC seems ready to start shutting down broadcast TV.
